My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school zone, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, my students come to school each day excited to learn and grow as an individual. Many of my students are being raised in single parent households and receive free and reduced lunch based on their socioeconomic status. From the minute they walk in my classroom I strive to help them feel safe, wanted and loved. I focus on not only teaching them the content but also how to interact with others in a positive, creative way. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can give them the tools they need to be a successful life learner.

My Project

I have scavenged yard sales, thrift stores and surplus stores to provide my student with flexible seating in the classroom. This helps them to be comfortable when collaborating with peers on classroom assignments and projects.

However, the tables in my classroom currently are falling apart with old age.

My students need tables to work on that do not give them splinters, or wobble because the table legs are giving out.

I have created this project in order to get new work tables for my students. We are currently using tables found in storage and they are falling apart. I believe my students deserve tables that are comfortable to sit at and work on.
