My students need various materials like pencils, notebooks, worksheets and glue sticks to complete science projects. At mid-year, we are running out of supplies and need to support 900 students.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a high poverty area. A number live in temporary housing. Yet they and their parents are determined to make education a priority. My students want to do well and are so proud when they raise their reading level, pass a math facts test or add to a classroom conversation. The focus and wonder that my students exhibit is amazing. Even on class trips, they apply what we have learned - telling me this is an "urban" or "suburban" area as we drive along. Or, they identify some other aspect of the landscape.
All students have unique talents and gifts, yet mine often do not have a chance to explore these because of their socio-economic status.
Whether they are budding scientists, mathematicians, writers, artists, doctors, teachers or musicians - my students need support to help them discover themselves.
I am grateful for DonorsChoose.org to give me the opportunity to help my students grow.
My Project
The Science Team services 900 students from classes k-5. We provide basic supplies like pencils, pens, notebooks, erasers, glue sticks, and scissors. We are running low on supplies now and need a boost to see us through the year.
It hard to explain, but families in high poverty areas strain to provide their children with all the school supplies they need throughout the entire school year.
By mid-year, children have run out of these essential supplies. Each student must have a Science Notebook. Students may use up their notebook and need another, new students may arrive and need a notebook, or some parents simply cannot afford to buy their children all the notebooks they need. So we provide notebooks in these cases and we have now run out. It is the same with pencils, erasers, post-its and glue sticks. With 900 students visiting the Science room, we provide a lot of pencils and other supplies. As for the paper I have requested, the Science team writes the curriculum and prints worksheets and tests for 900 students in 6 grades. At this time of the year, we run out of paper frequently and need a boost to get through the year.
