Our campus has around 100 students, which allows the students to get the individualized attention that they need.
Our school is an alternative school in Arizona.
The students come to our school due to being behind in credits or for behavioral reasons. Some of the various reasons that our students have trouble in school include socioeconomic status, emotional disorders, possibly being the first generation high school graduate, and/or going through the criminal justice system, etc. About 70% of our students receive free lunches.
My Project
Sitting at a desk and taking notes is a normal part of school. However, science is one class that students expect to apply what they have learned into hands on activities or labs. Unfortunately, right now, our students do not have the privilege to do that. These supplies will allow the new science teacher do labs with the students.
These basic science supplies such as distilled water, iodine solution, glucose solution, sucrose solution, etc.
will provide endless possibilities for our new science teacher.
Our science teacher currently teaches Biology, Essentials to Science, and 8th grade science. These supplies will allow the teacher to do labs in all of her classes. Being an alternative school, teachers have to constantly make sure that their lesson plans are interesting and keeping the attention of the students. Hands on activities are something that our students love and that truly captures their attention. Having the supplies to allow labs to be done will increase the student’s attention which in return will improve student’s grades, increase attendance, and ultimately lower our dropout rate.
Knowing that supplies are limited, we made sure that our list had items that are extremely versatile. With this list, there is an endless list of labs that can be done in any of the science classes.
