Science Supplies for Our Special Class

My students need supplies such as caterpillars, soil, cornstarch, seeds, alum powder, food coloring, glue, yeast, thermochromic pigment, liquid watercolors, liquid starch, and more to help us learn about science.

My Students

My special education class is made up of some pretty spectacular kindergarten and 1st graders. I teach resource, inclusion, and tutorial classes. Our class is made up of students who have ADHD, learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and/or autism. It is hard for most of them to sit and focus on instruction.

Despite their disabilities, my students come in my class smiling and eager to learn every day!

Watching their smiles and excitement when they achieve a goal makes my job the most rewarding ever!

My Project

My students need soil, seeds, cups, and spray bottles so that we can watch as beans and grass grow. We need glue, liquid starch, thermochromic pigments, and food coloring for our heat sensitive slime project. We will need caterpillars to watch them grow into butterflies, clear fingernail polish to make rainbow paper, Epsom salt to make magic crystals, test tubes and food coloring for color changing flowers, and cornstarch to make oobleck. We also need alum powder, egg dye, glitter glue, latex gloves, and a drying rack to make crystal geode eggs. My students need yeast, liquid watercolors, dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, and a funnel for our elephant toothpaste experiment.

My favorite memories from elementary school are the projects and experiments that we did in class!

That being said, I know that my students will remember what they learned for years later after doing these fun experiments! The materials in this project will also be used for other cool projects and experiments as well. I just wanted to list a few so that you can see what we will be doing with the supplies!
