This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Though they are eager learners, many of the students in my classes do not have the means to purchase the supplies needed to make learning the main focus in the classroom. The lack of school supplies provides another barrier to learning for my students, many of whom already face socio-economic challenges that impact their education. On a daily basis, students come to class unprepared without basic school supplies like pencils, notebooks and folders. As a result their preparation for learning is diminished.
My Project
Too much of the class time is spent passing out pencils and paper or sharing supplies like glue sticks and scissors. These items will help streamline classroom routines making transitions between activities less time consuming leaving more time for learning.
Some students do not participate in activities because they do not come to class with materials we use daily like a subject notebook, or loose-leaf paper and may be embarrassed to ask to borrow them from someone else.
As some students are prone to losing their work, an assignment organizer will provide a place for students to store their work in the classroom.
