Science Specimens And Tech Supplies For Bilingual Students!
My students need real life science specimens, a seed planting kit, a coupon for butterfly larvae, a new electric pencil sharpener, printer cartridges and batteries.
The main topics in our literacy program focuses on life cycles, plant growth and what keeps living things alive. The real specimens would give students the chance to examine living things instead of just seeing pictures. Watching butterflies and plants grow will give them first-hand experience!
My students are all new to the country and are learning English.
My program is for newcomers. I receive new students all through the year when they first enter the United States. I currently have students from 6 different countries. Some students have been in school before, but have limited English skills. Some students have never had a school experience in their native country. All of my students are eager to learn. They are excited about everything and they are hard-working and helpful. My students attend an inner-city school with 85% free and reduced lunch.
My Project
These resources are important for my students in order to learn the basic concepts of living things. We study insects, plants, sea life, life cycles, butterflies, etc. Having the real life specimens will allow students to closely observe these living things instead of just viewing pictures of them. There are four sets of specimens that contain four different types of real life plants or animals. For example, there is an insects and spiders set,a sea life set, a set which contains the parts of a plant, and a set that shows 4 frogs in different parts of it's life cycle. These specimens are colorful and would really enhance the curriculum that I teach. During our plant and butterfly units in the spring, it would be exciting for students to be able to plant their own seeds to understand the process and to watch butterflies go through the stages of their life cycle.
Printer cartridges, batteries, and a new pencil sharpener are desperately needed for a functioning and efficient classroom.
These supplies are so necessary for my students.
My students deserve the best! I feel like these supplies would tie into and greatly enhance the curriculum. Without your help, my students will not be able to have these special learning opportunities.
