My Students

I teach in a Title I building. My school is located in a suburb of Detroit. Many students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. My school's student population is a mixture of students who live in the neighborhood surrounding our school and students whose parents choose to send them to our school from neighboring cities. I am very lucky to have 23 amazing first graders in my class this year. They come to school each day eager to learn and grow together as a classroom family. Next year I have the opportunity to teach a 1/2 split class.

My Project

The science curriculum modules will help guide my teaching of the new science standards. These modules will help my students be more engaged during whole group, small group, and individual work during our science time. Since I will be teaching a 1/2 split class next year, these materials will be easy to store when not in use. The modules will help me incorporate more hands-on learning during science. Students need to be able to experience more hands-on learning. Students retain more knowledge when they are able to use more than one learning style while learning new concepts. I want to make science come alive for my students!
