Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I work with have so many distractions in their lives: whether they be personal, technological, or environmental. Keeping students engaged and excited about learning is one of the biggest challenges educators in my district face.
My students are a diverse group of learners who come from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
They are kind, hard-working, and gifted in their own unique ways. I strive to teach them the life skills needed to grow up and be confident, proficient contributors to society.
My Project
Kids are naturally curious which makes science an ideal subject for them to learn. Science allows students to explore their world and discover new things. One of the great things about science is that it is an active subject, best taught with hands-on labs and experiments. However, due to school closures due to Covid 19, my students are learning in a distance learning setting. This makes science especially challenging this year.
Generation Genius is a teaching resource that brings science standards to life through fun and educational videos paired with lesson plans, activities, quizzes, reading materials, and more.
And best of all, each lesson features hands-on activities! Generation Genius allows me to "take" my students to places they may never see and experience things I am unable to share with them first hand right now due to the school closures.
Teaching the scientific method to students is teaching them how to think, learn, solve problems, and make informed decisions- critical skills for the 21st-century learner. Please help me expand my students' knowledge of science in this most challenging school year. This magical resource will help them understand science concepts in a fresh, educational, practical way.
