This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a classroom full of 25 awesome kindergartners! They are excited, funny, and genuinely love learning. They come to my class with a big heart and full of wonder! My kiddos all come from a low socio-economic status. A number of the come from trauma. 100% of students receive free breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner. My classroom is OUR happy place! My students are special because though ability level and backgrounds are very different, there is seamless integration where each child feels welcome, respected, and loved. Each student is truly unique in their own little way and I encourage them to stand out! I'm so thankful to be their first teacher and start this journey of school with them. They make "work" not feel like work!

My Project

The Science of Reading is a body of work including the study and research of how people learn to read and write. It is not a program, an approach, or a specific strategy. It is the acknowledgement of all of the science that is out there about how people learn to read and thinking critically about how you teach. It’s not stagnant and is ever changing as we learn more and more how people learn to read. The key word in all of this is science.

The best learning takes place trough multi-sensory exploration.

I have handpicked these tools to meet the needs of all my students, and to help build their confidence in reading. Learning how to read does not have to be dry and boring! It should be hands-on, structured, and fun!
