My Students

Nelson Mandela said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I teach in the biggest elementary school in the state. Many of my students have come from refugee camps and lived in conditions many of us couldn't even fathom, yet they come to school every day and are excited to learn.

I am teaching a generation of children to stand up for their rights and their beliefs and to help them realize they can change the world.

My students are truly amazing individuals they just need to be taught that they are worth it and they can do it.

My Project

I have been doing my own research and learning about the science of reading. I have learned how the teaching of the science of reading can benefit students who struggle the most in schools. The science of reading is teaching students sounds and word parts and how letters and sounds can work in English starting with hearing and manipulating sounds then moving on to actually writing letters.

I am committed to help all students learn to the best of their abilities, but I have also learned how my abilities and my knowledge plays a huge role; I believe the science of reading is the key.

Whole-school change takes time, and I am not willing to wait for my school to come around and purchase the materials needed to best teach all students. I am asking for gift cards for Teachers Pay Teachers so that I can start teaching my students using the science of reading-based practices from resources obtained there, starting now.
