This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever dreaded the first day of school because you couldn't afford basic school supplies? Didn't have enough money to buy lunch? Didn't have enough money for the bus ride home? If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, then you know the life of my students.

I teach high school students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.

Our district is facing budget cuts, yet again, and the schools that will be impacted the most are ones like ours. Many students do not have the resources at home to support their learning. The focus at our school is Science and Technology. These materials will provide the foundation for some of these specialized electives, such as physiology and marine science, and core classes like biology. Help us foster learning in our community and encourage today's youth to enter the field of science.

My Project

The specialized notebook allows the students to be creative and organized at the same time. Each notebook has a cover that is created with a scientific theme plus an individualized touch. Notes, worksheets, and homework are glued, taped, pasted, and stapled into the notebook. By the end of the year, the notebook should be overflowing with learning materials and full of color! It will also contain feedback from the teacher and peers. It is imperative to the class because it promotes organization, routine, and creativity. On the last day of class, a student should admire the notebook and think, "Wow. I did that!"

Imagine what it must be like to use a hand-me-down notebook with ripped pages and a stranger's name crossed out on the cover.

Imagine being that student who came to school without supplies because their parents couldn't afford it. A notebook and a pen does not seem like a coveted prize, but for students who can barely afford lunch, it is like winning the jackpot. You will make it possible for these students to gain knowledge in a fun, creative, and individual way.
