Notebooking! An new learning technique. My scientists need real life skills. They are using the technique of notebooking in science. Notebooking helps children to understand the information given, to reflect on their own learning and to keep everything in one place.
My students come from high poverty areas.
They rarely get out-of-doors due to high crime in their neighborhoods. So my students are very inquisitive and need the opportunity to explore their own world. They have so many questions about nature, astronomy and natural disasters. They love hands-on activities and they love getting outside in a safe area when they have the opportunity. The requested notebooks would be so helpful in that setting as well as the classroom.
My Project
Remember science class? What do you remember most? Dissecting the frog, planting a flower, creating a volcano? Kids still want to do all those hands-on activities, they want to immerse themselves. The spiral bound notebooks, glue sticks, and colored pencils is a great way to get students to plunge into science. Notebooking is an engaging way to get and keep kids involved in their own learning. Notebooking is a many faceted learning object. It is an organizer, a paper holder, a review book, a place to draw, write or reflect on a lab. Real scientists use notebooks and journals all the time. I want my students to know they are real scientists and to feel important like our real scientists are!
The requested spiral notebooks, glue sticks and colored pencils will allow my students to take notes, create drawings of labs and outdoor adventures they take.
It will allow them to express themselves, their learning and the great discoveries they make. Scientists need their tools and one of those tools is a notebook to keep experiment and discovery information.
