Help me give my students in primary grades a place to store their science journals in my classroom. Also a classroom set of science magazines that arrive monthly and can be shared with all four of my classes.
My students are intensely curious, full of energy, challenging, and LOVE hands-on activities. They are 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who are all at least one grade level ahead of their same-age peers because they need appropriately leveled challenges. Our program helps these students get stuck (maybe for the first time!) and learn how to get unstuck, to persevere, to ask for help (shocking!), and work together, on equal footing, with others in groups. We work on social and emotional skills as well as rigorous content.
In my science classes, students work on NGSS science standards that are at or above their grade level.
I also teach one section of math. All of my math students are also advanced. I'm teaching math in a workshop model setting where the students can move through the material at an individually appropriate pace.
I am looking for funding to purchase hands-on math and science materials, science reading materials, and also materials to help organize my new classroom. Thanks so much for considering funding my projects!
My Project
The magazine holders will allow me to have an organized way to keep the science journals belonging to my 2nd and 3rd graders. They won't need to remember to bring them to class, they'll just stay here! We'll use them to write and draw observations from our school habitat and also from in class labs.
The SuperScience magazines will give all of my students in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade some reading material with articles about current science topics in the news.
These engaging magazines have articles about life, Earth, and physical science as well as engineering topics. The students love them!
