Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students served by this project are in Extended Transitional Kindergarten, Transitional Kindergarten as well as a traditional Kindergarten classes. All of these students will have access to this technology through our Kindergarten Playroom.
Many parents that live in my school's neighborhood can not afford preschool.
My school is a Title I school in a low-income area of the city of Los Angeles. All the students who attend this school receive free breakfast and lunch. About 48% of the school population are English language learners. Our school is a Gold Ribbon School and is very interested in developmentally appropriate practices for our youngest students. Our kindergarten teachers work very closely to implement high standards to ensure our students receive the foundational learning they need to be successful in life and reach their academic goals. My Project
Creating short videos with iPads is the perfect way for our kindergarteners to showcase their science learning while at the same time increasing their oral language skills, especially important for our English Learners.
There may even be a future Bill Nye or Neil deGrasse Tyson in our midsts!
Students will work cooperatively, researching their topics based on their interests and creating backdrops and props to engage their audience. After recording with the iPads, the videos will not only be shared with parents during Open House but will also be shared with other kindergarten classes. This project will definitely help build confidence in our budding scientists.
