Science Meets Graphic Novels/Manga

Help me give my students some science fiction manga/graphic novels to blend their love of manga/graphic novels with science!

My Students

Our 2000 students come from a variety of backgrounds, are full of diversity and have various reading abilities. They love reading across genres and topics. Right now, they are craving some new SCIENCE FICTION titles and they love reading manga! We would love to help feed those cravings.

My Project

Manga (Japanese comics) and graphic novels are huge right now and the requests for more of the books in our library collection has exploded! I cannot keep our current small manga and graphic novels on our shelves long enough to meet student demand. I have a very limited budget to purchase more. I absolutely hate turning students away because we are either out of the book they are looking for or don't have it available for them to check out in the first place.

Even our reluctant readers are checking out books, some for the very first time!

These are students who typically are not interested in reading or have never found a book that was appealing to them. They are coming in multiple times a week hoping that the next book in the series has been returned so that they can get their hands on it. I try and leverage the time they are waiting for that next manga book with a suggestion for some of the nonfiction titles that match the themes of the manga/graphic novels they are reading. It has been working and I would love to keep this momentum going!
