Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My second graders are energetic and creative. They are hands-on learners that love to build, create, and design using any materials they can get their hands on! I am lucky to teach a diverse group of individuals who all excel in different areas. In my classroom you will find students with special needs, students who speak multiple languages, gifted students, and everyone in between! Despite their differences, my students enjoy working together and learning from each other. Most of my students are kinesthetic and/or visual learners, so I try to incorporate a lot of art and STEM activities throughout the week!
My Project
I am requesting a Building Blocks of Science 3D kit, which will help students study the world around them in a hands-on and engaging way. This matter unit introduces students to the three states of matter, characteristics of each state, some properties of matter, and physical and chemical changes in matter.
I enjoy integrating science into my language arts and math blocks because it captivates my students and encourages them to use the life skills of collaboration, communication, and problem solving.
The kit I am requesting comes with 24 student readers to incorporate into my language arts block. My students are always more motivated to read when they have background knowledge and it relates to what they are learning in science. I plan to use this unit toward the beginning of the school year to introduce my students to science procedures and create an environment where students feel comfortable being curious, creative, and working with others.
