Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Nothing is more exciting in a classroom than getting hands-on experience and a closer look at something we see every day. With Common Core standards being implemented in our school, our class will need more materials to dig deeper into our science standards.
I will have about 30 incoming first grade students.
These students are all 5 to 7 years old and come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. They are not afforded many opportunities at home outside of school, and they come eager to learn and explore. Our school is a Title I school in California.
My Project
Kids are full of questions. Imagine being someone who can provide them with the resources to discover the answers themselves. Now when they start asking questions in science, I won't give them an answer. Instead, I will give them the resources and teach them to find answers themselves. With your help, you can help create innovative thinkers in science and in life!
My students need 4 microscopes and plant slides to study plants in greater depth and to understand the living world. If we are provided with the microscopes and different slides containing parts of a plant, the students will be able to explore plants in greater depth. The students can start to understand the molecular world around them by zooming in with the microscopes and starting to discover the makeup of living organisms. This will also allow us to compare different stems and leaves from various types of plants. Not only will these microscopes and slides teach these first graders more about plants, but they will also serve as an introduction to the scientific process and higher level exploration.
These are zealous and curious children who want to explore.
Coming from kindergarten, this is the first time they are taught to think on their own and draw conclusions. Please help give them tools to encourage their curiosity for the living world. We have the zeal, and now we need the resources.
