My students need additional science, mathematics, and fine motor resources in our classroom. I love the Ramptastic and want to have two so students can have races comparing which style ramp is the fastest! I am also requesting a What's Inside Me Doll and a Learn to Dress Monkey.
In 2016 our school district was formed in Arkansas, home of an Air Force Base! The Pre-K program did not join the district until this year, 2017. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
I am a first-year teacher teaching in an ABC Pre-K program in its first year in the school district!
Many of my students are military children who live on the Air Force Base. These students are 3-5 years old and we are looking to increase their availability to high-quality resources.
Pre-K programs set the standard for how children view school; it is their first experience in formal education. It is my goal to provide materials that increase student learning through play and hands-on experiences. I strive to make my classroom safe and fun while providing a solid foundation for all future learning.
My Project
Our classroom is a literacy-rich environment but we are looking to increase the availability of science, math, and fine motor manipulatives and develop a strong foundation for these experiences. Students must first learn to do fine motor activities before they can have success in writing. Developing fine motor skills and ability helps to form the basic skills required for writing, which is a critical skill learned at this age. Providing students with the Lace and Trace Shapes and Dress Me Monkey will help to develop these skills in a way which is real to their lives. The finger puppets are a fun way to incorporate fine motor movement with our love for books!
Our students have grown increasingly interested in science and mathematics and we want to provide current, developmentally appropriate, and engaging materials for them to explore with.
We are excited to update our classroom resources with new and exciting manipulatives and activities. I am most excited to add the two Ramptastics. These ramps with interchangeable ramp surfaces will allow students to explore which surface is fastest for different vehicles. This element of discovery will be a fun way to tie inquiry into our block center and engage some of our students in new experiences there. I think the students will love the What's Inside Me Doll (how can they not?!) and the Balance and Unifix cubes will be great resources to use with some existing materials we have. Lastly, young children are so sensory-oriented. I think they will love exploring with the color mixing glasses. These will go great with our magnifying glasses and 3-D glasses already in the science center.
