Do you remember what it was like to be a visual learner and have nothing to refer to except a chalkboard for resources? Well, I certainly do, and my students need technology and hands-on learning to help make connections to Math, Literacy, and Science.
My students come to school with a willingness to learn and are proud to be part of such an exceptional school.
I teach at a charter school that is filled with amazing parents and faculty who are always willing to help me help my students achieve. The school is fairly new and is in desperate need of resources for differentiated instruction. Everyday, 28 students walk into a 5th grade classroom eager and thirsty for knowledge. I want my students to have access to the necessary resources in order for them to achieve their goals, become responsible citizens, and continue a lifelong love for learning.
I am requesting 3 Kindle Fire tablets to give my students the the technology to think critically and not be part of the problem, but rather the solution. Through the use of an Amazon Kindle Fire, my students will learn about advising on important education, career, health, and financial decisions. Students will create and develop skills in: applying math concepts to practical situations, explore the newest data related to scientific discoveries, data analysis, strategic planning, and time management. I will be able to teach students to: compare the costs of different purchases, create realistic budgets, interpret trends in transportation, housing and utilities, and other costs. In addition, ebooks will be available immediately for differentiating literacy. Lastly, through Zillio Math and Life Science games, my students can learn about Math and Life Science through hands-on learning.
Our future depends upon the skills that are learned through everyday activities, such as: the scientific method, Life Science, Mathematics, and technology.
Also, the importance of giving visual learners practical and useful applications and visual aids to make real-world connections. Clearly, the impact that this project will have on my current and future students will provide a plethora of ways to compete on a national and global level.
