After having successfully introduced World Space Week at my school, I found the need to offer books about Space to my students.
My school is a K-8 school in New York. It is a school of choice open to children who are zoned to district 3 serving students from diverse backgrounds, cultures and physical abilities. My school is an empowerment school as well as a mentor for the DOE collaborative community.
World Space Week brought a lot of interest to learn more about the space, the solar system, and the earth. Since we do not have a school library, and this is a new topic of interest among my students, I need to offer books that fulfill their curiosity. The books I am asking for are to be shared among classrooms.
Having shared science books will help students at our school also share in the excitement of learning. Reading about space will help to make this obscure topic seem closer, and more accessible. But since I am also teaching a whole unit on water and its importance for life in our planet, this books will give us the opportunity to connect both topics by comparing the planet earth with other planets in the solar system.
That is why I need books about space and about water, to give my students the opportunity to research, find facts, and make connections.
With your help my students will not only learn about Space but also understand why water is vital and why we need to take care of it. Moreover, you can make it possible for the students at our school to have a shared science library!
