Help me give my students laptops for research and virtual labs in science.
My students are in need of laptop computers to help them get the most out of their education. My school is committed to the education of their students and is very active within the community.
My students need computers to help bring our science classroom into the 21st century.
I teach 7th grade in Bayside, NY. Many of my students are new to this country and speak a variety of different languages. Each student brings his or her own diverse background and experiences to the classroom. But the one thing they all have in common is there passion to learn. I try to utilize many different learning techniques and strategies to best reach all the students. The ability to do research in the room or watch a relevant video on the topic will only enhance what my students can get from a lesson.
Computers in the classroom everyday would be an amazing addition to any science classroom. They will have the ability to make the invisible visible. So much of science can not be seen with the naked eye. But computers will have the power to bring the world of atoms or cells alive for my students.
We will use the computers to complete virtual labs, web quests, research on all topics, and review interactivities.
The computers will allow my students to become more independent learners. It will also allow them to learn at their own speed. They will complete student led station labs that will let them explore on their own and with their peers.
Throughout the year I try to use computers as often as possible. The problem is that there is one cart with 17 computers for about 25 teachers to share. That makes it very hard to get the computers on a regularly basis and then the students also have to share. When technology is limited in the classroom, it makes it much harder to make learning an interactive experience. With computers on a regular basis the students will be able to complete a variety of different webquests that will take them on a safe journey through the internet on specific science topics. Learning is always enhanced when approach from a variety of ways.
