My students need telescopes, microscope slides, science lab trays, timers, and a solar system model for the ceiling in order to improve their science lab.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
How do you teach science without exciting hands-on science equipment? This year, my students will be spending more than 50% of their science class in the lab, and they need some new exciting equipment to spice it up!
I am located in Texas at a low economic school.
More than 93% of my fourth and fifth grade students are both Hispanic and LEP, meaning that English is their second language. In addition, my students are the most struggling in the school. They have been grouped together to help improve their academic vocabulary and background knowledge. Hands-on experiments are needed to help bridge the gap to their vocabulary and reading materials. When surprise, interest, or curiosity is included in an activity, they are 50% more likely to remember what they have learned.
My Project
The supplies requested for the science lab will help keep my students actively interested in science. Instead of just learning about the moon by looking at pictures, videos, and reading materials, my students will actually be able to view the craters and other features of the moon and other planets with the use of the telescopes. Additionally, the solar system blow up model will not only help cheer up the plain lab room, the students will always have a visual reminder of the planets appearances.
Our new microscope slides will help keep the interest of our students because our current slides are cracked, smeared, or lost.
Furthermore, the trays and timers will help keep the lab smoothly running for organizing materials and keeping track of time in individual labs.
It has been researched that schools start to lose students' interest, starting in fifth grade.
Furthermore, science becomes their least favorite subject. If I can catch 50 students love of science now, think about how bright their futures could be in 12-15 years! They could be the next in space or our future doctors!
