Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a Science teacher at PS 76 in Harlem. My classroom lacks basic resources for science education. This is frustrating because my students really have a natural curiosity for scientific investigation which they are unable to explore due to a shortage of books and materials. Delta Education has wonderful kits based around central scientific themes. Each kit comes with all the supplies needed to provide students with 8-12 lab experiences. I would love to have my students see a plant grow from a seed, build simple machines and explore magnetism through hands-on experiences rather than just be presented with a written lesson. Science is a "doing" subject and I would like to demonstrate this to my students. They are responsible for passing a NYC science test part of which is based on experiments. How can they be prepared when they are unfamiliar with the tools or have never even been in a lab environment? I think my students deserve better. Their minds are ready to explore and we are ready to show you what we can do. Thank you for your consideration.
