My students need kits to help the experiment with science, mathematics, and engineering. These are hands-on kits that will help them be problem solvers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are yearning to be the future scientists, engineers, architects, astronauts, biologists, mathematicians and inventors.
My students come from a low income area.
They have limited exposure to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This year, we started a STEM after school club. The classes have been full with a waiting list. The students ask me on a daily basis if we have STEM this week. They love the program and would benefit from even more instruction.
My Project
With more STEM materials we can have more classes. We started our lab from scratch and begged and borrowed to fill it with materials for experiments, creating, inventing, and solving. We created this lab with a budget of zero. Each month, we scrounge enough materials to hold a class twice a month. With the new materials we will be able to have classes more often serving more students. With new science kits that I am requesting, students will have resources that are complete and put together. The kits include earth science, physical science, and life science materials. In addition, we are requesting a rain barrel. This will allow students to create a rain garden. The garden will be environmentally friendly. It will aid the community's streams and provide an outdoor learning place for science. The kits are related to the STEM fields and will allow students to problem solve and create.
This project will give students more opportunities to become scientist, engineers, and mathematicians.
We will be able to hold after school classes more often. In addition, we can use the materials in the lab in our daily science classes.
