My Students

My fourth graders are awesome! They are 'city kids' who love school, art, dancing, playing sports, and trying new things. These children at our school really are so special. I could never see myself teaching anywhere else.

For many of our students, school is the brightest part of their day.

It's the place where they eat breakfast, lunch, and some even have dinner. It's a place where they are safe and loved. For some of them, school is the one place they are able to just be a kid. Many of them help raise their younger siblings so being at school is an escape for them.

Many of our children have heartbreaking stories, some of them have lived through things I'm not sure some adults could get through. So when they are with us at school we try our hardest to make them feel safe, loved and respected. These children are not just students in our classrooms, they are part of our lives. Our job is difficult but it's what I was put on Earth to do!

My Project

Hello! I teach fourth-grade science and I absolutely love it! I have so much passion for this subject...and so do my students! They don't get very much exposure to science before they get to me. So they are so excited about everything we do.

Working in the area that I do, it is difficult to find funds to pay for science materials.

We are given a small amount of money each year for our classroom. However, most of it is spent on basic school supplies. Most of our students aren't able to bring their own supplies. This leaves little left for science materials and field trips. So, I have to find ways to help them experience science in other ways. Since we aren't able to take trips to the museums, I try and bring the museum to us! Our classroom is like a science discovery center! I'm always looking for models and activities to put in our classroom.

These materials I've requested will be displayed in our classroom all year, for years to come! I've got about 15 years before I retire (haha), so for at least the next 15 years, students will be able to use and enjoy these materials. I've requested materials for the various units I teach. Students will be able to use these supplies to make learning more engaging.

Science is our future, we all know that. In fourth grade, I'm trying to foster a love for STEM so that they can consider a career in this field later on. You will help me do this with these materials. Thank you so much!
