Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
My students are creative, clever, and very spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read, and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Many of my students come to Kindergarten without prior access to preschool. My ultimate goal is to have our students reading, writing, adding, and subtracting by the time they leave Kindergarten. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. We accomplish this through various hands-on activities that are engaging, interactive and fun.
My Project
The most exciting time of year in my kindergarten classroom is spring when we dive into our journey of Life Science! Our science lessons are already a crowd favorite, but learning becomes even more exciting when we get to study animals within our own classroom. In order to properly care for these animals (goldfish and guppies), I would like to provide our class with two fully functioning aquariums so that we can observe animal behaviors appropriately. These aquariums would not only assist in providing a way for my students to observe and study animals, but it would also be an opportunity to model how to properly care for these animals.
