Help me give my students valuable resources, such as magazine subscriptions from Scholastic News, that will help them build the skills they need to do well in the future.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I love teaching science! It's like magic, but real. The students in my classroom are exceptional learners. My 3rd graders are learning science through hands-on investigations and my 5th-grade students are questioning community and world issues as they engage in daily conversations stemming from numerous media outlets including social media.
All students are fully engaged through traditional teaching with textbooks but also through daily collaborative experiments and group discussions.
Boys and girls are excited about science and look forward to the day's Focus Question. The girls are open to touching crayfish, cockroaches, and pill bugs. They do not shy away from the Structures of Life unit and challenge the boys to keep up! The 5th-grade students are eager to learn about the history of America and understand how they will play a part in its future.
My Project
Scholastic's magazine provides a valuable opportunity to expose students to print and digital magazines that are packed with high-interest articles and skill building activities.
My students are opening up to the world around them as they are exposed to the new curriculum in Grades 3 and 5.
Exposing my students, especially the girls to STEM careers that involve technology, engineering, and math, is crucial as few females into these careers. As for my 5th graders, the magazines will help to connect history lessons with today's laws and behavior in society. They will also be able to make projections for their lives and contributions to society.
