Ms. Amis from Downsville LA is requesting Lab Equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Science Is Fun

My students need various items to complete our next Science unit. Each of the items will be used for hands-on STEM instruction in the classroom.

My Students

I teach the most amazing group of future scientists and engineers at a small charter school. We are a small close knit community whose members value education and discovery.

My goal is not only for my students to ask questions, but to look for answers to those questions and to design models to "fix" the problem.

All of the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch and for them resources are limited. My goal is to create a classroom where they can not just learn science, but explore it and make real-life connections.

My Project

These materials will give my students the hands on training they need to make science concepts come alive. We are focused on STEM instruction that really gives students a deeper understand of science.

Seeing my students work with the materials and the way each concept just seems to click is amazing and I want to make that happen for my students.

Without these items, my students would have to go back to the "old" way of learning science; with a book. The different types of balls will be used to study how weight and mass affect gravity. With a hairdryer, sand, and gravel we will study the impacts of erosion and what we can do to halt the effects. There are many students who struggle with reading about a concept and understanding it. Using things such as light meters to test how light travels really helps them understand. Using bamboo skewers and gumdrops, they will build structures and test erosion and other elements and how they interact. Many of the items in my cart seem strange, but the way they will be used completely makes sense.
