My students need supplies such as folders, paper and creative supplies like water colors for the classroom so we can look forward to more science based art projects!
Hello! I am at a creative, arts based school in Minneapolis that specializes in small class sizes and personalized learning to meet the needs of our student population. We are a small school and our goal is to create a community of learners that work together with mutual respect, compassion and empathy. The students here are focused on doing the best they possibly can and know that the staff and teachers are here to help them succeed in high school and beyond. Unfortunately we are also a high poverty population and struggle to provide basic supplies for our students to succeed.
My Project
As a science teacher at an arts based middles school, I strive to combine both art and science in my curriculum as much as possible. Unfortunately most of these creative and fun projects are quite a drain on resources as art supplies are both expensive and limited in how long they can be used. I would like to finish out the year in my class with several more projects that would allow my students to express their creative arts side while demonstrating their knowledge of the subject matter. Having these supplies would allow me to differentiate science in ways that could reach my students who wouldn't have learned in a more traditional lecture or textbook format.
