Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are my curious, bubbly 7th and 8th graders. We are a Title I school, so it is hard for the parents to support us financially and academically. Students need to be educated in environmental science in my class so that they can be responsible citizens later.
My students are curious, warm and full of life.
They can perform at the same level as any other student if they are encouraged and exposed to opportunities like kids in the affluent schools. They are faced with many challenges inside and outside the classroom. Despite the many challenges they have to encounter, I am trying my best to keep things simple and meaningful to daily life.
Many of them are raised by single parents or grandparents. More than 80% receive free or reduced-price lunch because of their socioeconomic status. They were not exposed to typical childhood experiences, but as soon as they enter my classroom, I focus on their potential growth. I do not have any control of their home lives, but I certainly can make a positive impact as long as they are with me in the classroom. I encourage them to be lifelong learners to achieve their goals.
My Project
My students will learn about Newtons Laws of motion and the newtons cradle will be very helpful. They will create the Terrarium for their Ecosystem unit and keep monitoring it in class. They will use the Crystal growing kits for STEM Fair at school. 3D puzzles will help them to know more about one of the seven wonders of the world and history. Solar system models will help the students to understand the location of planets. Space shuttle model will help them to understand about the shuttle and its action in the space. These will help them to visualize the concept and hopefully retain it better in my hands-on ..minds on science class.
