Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a small, tight knit, school community located on the outskirts of a capital city. Our school has been around for over 150 years in the same spot. This combination provides a strong sense of community where teachers know all of the children and families.
We are a Title I school that is currently 100% free lunch and many students have difficulty acquiring the supplies needed for school due to the lack of family resources.
My students absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
My Project
Interactive notebooks are designed for students to personalize their learning in a structured organization that allows for creativity and engagement. These interactive notebooks allow students to learn and study at the same time.
My students use interactive notebooks as a learning tool to take notes using foldables, graphic organizers, note-taking templates, and to practice and apply science concepts.
By providing the supplies needed for interactive notebooks, we are able to level the playing field for at-risk students, allowing them equal footing with their peers as we begin the school year. It will also allow ALL my students to organize, personalize, and make sense of their own learning.
