I teach sixth grade science and reading. We are a rural school with many of our students on free and reduced lunch.
We do not have any museums or resources close to our community that would expose our students to science. By bringing science into the classroom, doors are opened for students who might not otherwise get the experience. My students need science materials for hands on experiences in sixth grade.
Through physical science activities, students will be making polymers and demonstrating electrical energy. Density columns will be used to show the separation of liquids provided in the kit. Life science activities include examining nature. One such activity will be using the Glo Germ kit to demonstrate the passing of germs from one person to another. We will dissect eyes and hearts, so we will need gloves to protect our students' hands. Earth science activities will begin by classifying basic fossils and making salt dough models of landforms and painting them.
You will make it possible for my students to learn science through memorable activities. Many students are intimidated by science. By using hands-on activities, students will see science as attainable for everyone.
