Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Science is exciting, just ask my 5th graders! My students love to experiment, research and investigate. Our science time is full of hands on activities that allow us to experience the world around us.
My students are amazing individuals.
They come from a high poverty area, but this does not define them. They are hungry to learn about their world. My science class allows them to do this without ever having to leave their neighborhood. Our school is an amazing inner city place that works with mostly Hispanic families. We are one hundred percent free and reduced lunch and deal with the effects of poverty everyday.
My Project
My students will use the twelve microscopes to view numerous slides, small particles such as gravel and salt, and to get an upclose look at other interesting items. The safety goggles will be used with each investigation to help protect our eyes. Both of these resources are also discussed on the end of year state test, so it is imperative we know how to properly use them.
This project will make a great difference in our science class.
It will allow us to accomplish our goals in a safe manner. It will also allow my students to become familiar with tools they will use in every science class and lab from now until college. My students will be able to experience what a real science lab looks and feels like. I know this will help grow future scientists.
