My students have been working hard to learn our regular curriculum, but the adjustment to distance learning is challenging. We are meeting daily on Zoom, and all of my students have internet access either via phone (data), free public wifi, or home wifi. However, now that we are six weeks into virtual learning, the novelty has worn off. It is becoming harder and harder to keep our daily meetings from becoming boring or monotonous. As an educator, I need something that will keep their attention and give them something to look forward to each week.
My Project
We have already completed a few science experiments that I put together from items around my home but I need new materials. My students loved to experiment at home. We talked about our hypothesis, we mapped the results and we discussed why their prediction was correct or incorrect. It was a great learning time and allowed them to forget about all that is going on around them. I will use the requested science material kits to continue this instruction. It will provide my students with new opportunities to improve their writing abilities and will help them think critically. This science time will give them the chance to spark their curiosity and get the most out of their distance learning.
