My students need supplies in order to conduct science investigations and to participate in scientific inquiry. Supplies include display boards, cameras, and weights.
My students are so curious about the world around them. They want to learn about the world by investigating and exploring new ideas. I am requesting materials for my students to be able to investigate how colors absorb light, how soil affects plant growth, and how to build the strongest bridge.
I have 28 wonderful students who work hard each and every day.
My students come from all over the world and speak many different languages. Quite a few of my students are immigrants and refugees. Despite the difficulties they have faced, they come to school eager to learn daily. 97% of the students at our school are living below the poverty line.
My Project
We will use these materials to create a science fair. My students will be investigating different hypotheses and documenting their investigations. They will then use the knowledge they have learned to create a presentation for the science fair. They will be presenting their discoveries to other students at our school. Some of the topics they will be investigating are how does color affect light absorption, how does friction affect speed, how does the type of soil affect plant growth, and what bridge structure is the strongest. One group will paint boxes different colors and use thermometers to measure the temperature of the boxes when placed in direct sunlight. A second group will roll a ball down a ramp and measure the distance over different surfaces. Another group will plant seeds in 3 types of soil to determine which soil is the best. My students will be actively involved in planning, implementing, and analyzing their investigation.
My students will be able to share their investigations with other students throughout the school.
It will encourage the students to investigate and ask questions as well as become problem solvers. Students will use this opportunity to act as "scientists". The experience will help to prepare them for their future school years.
