Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a fourth grade teacher in a large, Pre-K-8 school. Most, if not all, of my students come from lower income families. Many of these children face poverty, violence, and obscenities of life on a daily basis; that are well beyond what most of us could imagine.
Despite all of that, they come to school hungry for knowledge trying to do their best to learn as I try to do my best to give them a good education and an introduction to the American way of life.
We are looking to get families to get involved in activities after school as well as within the school day.
With limited resources, there are many things that others consider basic parts of education that I am unable to provide without the assistance of others. Many of my students do not come to school fed, let alone with the correct school supplies needed to succeed. Their parents are not able to supply them with simple school supplies.
My Project
My students will benefit from these supplies/prizes by being able to do their science fair project such as the tri-fold boards, prizes for first, second and third place as well as participants.
My students have very creative ideas for their science fair but are limited by their socioeconomic status from getting the supplies they need.
This will help alleviate that restriction to some extent.
This will help them to be creative and go for more high-quality work as they will not have to spend money on supplies, and I would like to surprise them with awards.
Although more is needed, I am restricted by the amount I can ask for so I have listed what I think are the most essential items needed.
