Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a science teacher at P.S/I.S. 123. I have been teaching 6th, 7th and 8th grade science at P.S./I.S. since 1992. I truly believe project-based learning and real life experiences allow my students to understand many scientific concepts they do not experience in their every day life. Movies are an extremely effective tool we can use to bring these concepts to the classroom. Some are fiction because they present situations that could never happen and some present situations that are very real. Movies allow our students to be witnesses to events that have really taken place in our history and to events that could happen in our near or distant future. The movies will provide my students topics to be discussed - by writing a reaction paper and/or conducting a debate. I am requesting a TV with VCR/DVD to utilize as part of my science instruction. This item will allow my students to be exposed to many films that are science related and to then have conversations about the topics that were presented in movies.
