Thank you for viewing my project! I am a 3rd grade teacher. This is my fifth year teaching 3rd grade and I LOVE IT! This grade level is so curious and craves new excitement in their learning. My goal as a teacher is to give that excitement to them!
My students come from a variety of backgrounds.
My classroom has 1/3 English Language Learners, many come from single parent homes, and over half are from low-income households. I do not want these circumstances to prevent my students from experiencing the best education they can get! My classroom is a place we can be ourselves, critically think, and trust one another to share our ideas.
I want to foster a love and excitement for learning so my students will crave it! I want to help develop their critical thinking skills so they truly become thinkers and will go on to do big things! I want to create a resilience in my students so that their current circumstances do not determine their future. Learning is a powerful tool....and many students need one person to jump-start that passion which can change their life.
My Project
My class mission this year is to make science come to life! I want to give my students the opportunity to explore, experiment, think, and apply the Scientific Method in a variety of ways.
These supplies will help transform my classroom into a young scientists dream!
Many of my students come to me and do not know what a microscope does, what owls eat, or that our planet is a giant magnet! I do not want my students to just learn these topics....I want them to be IMMERSED in it! I want to create an environment where we think together, plan together, and explore together as I incorporate these tools into our scientific learning.
We will use these tools to get up close to the world around us. I can already see my students faces light up when they get to observe plants and insects up close with a microscope! They will also get to use the owl pellets as an extension to our study of food chains! They will get to dissect and identify the parts of an owl pellet and have discussions related to animal chains. The magnets will be a hands on way for kids to explore magnetism and apply the Scientific Method.
