My students need manila folders and index cards to create their choice end of year science exploration. Students also need tickets to reinforce positive behavior and sticker dots that rate their level of understanding.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What can I say about my students? First, my students live in a small town, but that does not define who they are. Every day these students have a chance to show an interest in science and learning. They go to a school where educators are striving to give them everything they deserve and to keep them interested in going to school. My goal is to be a part of what makes them grow up to be someone they are proud of.
Secondly, I teach 8th-graders who are learning what it is like to be independent and responsible.
Giving them an opportunity to express themselves, however they choose, has many benefits, and I enjoy watching them create science concepts in a whole new light. They are able to take what they are given and make it their own, which is extremely important at this age!
My Project
As we are entering the second semester, we are getting prepared for the STAAR and for our of the year projects. Students are going to investigate a scientific concept of their choice in class, similar to a science fair. To reduce our environmental impact, students will be using manila folders instead of poster boards, and index cards for organization. It would be amazing if I could provide this to them so that they do not have to worry about funds.
Students are also working on rating their personal level of understanding for each science concept, while keeping up positive behavior and effort.
Students receive tickets when they are doing great, helping each other, and being exceptional. In our class we have created a large poster that accounts for all students (they are given a random number found on the poster), and every standard they are expected to learn. The colored dots will let them see where they are at for each; green is good, yellow is almost there, and red needs work!
