Science Exploration Lab

The cost of 15 introductory microscope sets and 5 GeoSafari Talking Microscopes from Delta Education is $826, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.

I teach at an urban at-risk elementary PreK-5 school. My students have limited life experiences and need all the help we can give them. I teach the gifted and talented program and have many students with the potential for learning so much more. I would like to fund a Science Exploration Lab that would be used by all 900 students in my building. The Science Exploration Lab would have the equipment for hands-on experiments and learning. Students could examine the microscopic world around them and prepare for high school science courses at the same time. Teachers could take their whole classes into the lab to conduct experiments and let students experience how the world of science works. I would be able to give my gifted students the opportunity to learn above grade level curriculum and to experience the fun of learning about their world. Students would examine water samples to understand about the smallest inhabitants of the earth. Then they could examine skin cells to learn about DNA and how the human body operates. They could see a drop of their own blood under the microscope to understand how diseases affect the body and the importance of healthy living styles. Students would use the microscopes for their independent Science Fair experiments. My school has promised to purchase sets of microscope slides to be used for lab lessons if I could get a donor to help us with the microscopes. This would be an opportunity for students to experience how a scientist thinks and works, so that they might plan a future career in science.
