Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a Title I district, in the lower Yakima Valley and residing on the Yakama reservation. My students come from all walks of life and are eager to build their education surrounded by their community. My students are Pre-K. ages 3-4. 100% of my students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch, which means most of our families are considered low-income. The majority of our students' parents work long hours in agriculture and labor industries. These parents have little time to explore or enhance their engineering and scientific findings with their children.
I strive to make my classroom an enriched environment for children to explore science and engineering views and explorations.
My students are very eager to use new tools and see science through the eye of a scientist and experience science hands-on like an engineer.
My Project
These exciting materials will be beneficial for my students they explore science and engineering. As Marie Curie stated, "A scientist in his laboratory is not only a technician, he is also a child placed before natural phenomena which impresses him like a fairy tale." I want students to explore real-life activities with force and motion and how and why things move the way they do, along with using robotics and engineering virtual activities through technology. Using the light table, students will explore a variety of bugs, shapes, and numbers, and see them in a new light and investigate how they onced moved freely.
With these new science and engineering supplies, my students will become self- sufficient learners and engage in a variety of exploration, engineering, and calculating adventures.
When I look and how beneficial these tools will be for my students, I know my GLAD strategies will be more productive and using more of my realia where kids can see what a butterfly looks under light or making educated observations of how they lived when they were alive. Science and engineering are the new age for visual and hands-on learning. I want to give every child an opportunity to find their wings and explore.
