About My Students

My students have a passion for science, technology, engineering, and math that is contagious. They are ambitious and caring students who have volunteered their own time to discover new and exciting hands on science labs for the younger students. We are located in a smaller rural town and share a campus with our elementary and middle school. My students have taken on the project to put on a science day for our elementary students.

I love watching my students when they are able to connect what they have learned to a real life situation. My students are really excited to teach the younger students what they have learned and give them insight into what they will get to learn in the upper grades. STEM is very limited in our elementary school and this will provide a huge learning experience to all students involved!

My students will teach the elementary students about science and enhance their own learning through the process. The high school students feel important as they take on the responsibility to organize their stations and communicate with the younger students. The elementary school students will get unique hands on learning opportunities that may not otherwise be provided.

In Their Own Words

"The science day provides students with an opportunity to see something they have never seen before and ask questions. This will help assist children in developing crititcal thinking and discovering new interests."

"We hope to excite kids and get them ready for middle school or high school science."

"The science day will show younger kids how fun school can be and provide experiments and demonstrations to help them learn better from a visual point of view."

"With each presentation students will show leadership qualities by having a positive attitude and knowing the science behind our projects."

"Teaching elementary students gives high school students an opportunity to take the lead and teach. This helps these students develop their own communication and leadership skills as they help little kids learn."

"The community benefits from this science day because our small town lacks any science museums. Having the opportunity to see our demonstrations and try a variety of labs will help kids become interested in STEM programs."

"This event is important because it exposes kids to activities they wouldn't normally see."
