My students need science supplies for science class, including kits and items for learning about optics as well as 6 beanbag chairs to make class more comfortable.
The class room is empty. How can you learn about lights, waves and color without experiencing it firsthand, without equipment like gels and prisms and lights? Color and light are things that are understood better firsthand, rather than online or with traditional texts.
Our students love to learn, but many have not thrived in traditional settings.
Our kids learn through hands-on experiences and mini-mission based projects and technology used along with traditional texts and strategies. Located in Chicago, many of these students don't have the resources they need for school.
My Project
Creating lighting effects, building rainbows and becoming invisible (right, sounds cool?!) are all some of the mini-missions that our students will be doing while learning about light and color, waves and motion. We can't do all that without the color kit, gels and paddles that we ordered. The rulers and protractors as well as the white boards are for math. Beanbag chairs are for daily reading to make the classroom more comfortable for the students.
Our philosophy along with the materials that are unavailable to us (provided by your generosity) will make the learning experience memorable and well understood!
Hands-on provides a deeper understanding, especially in the context of mini-missions. The kids are self-motivated and driven to learn in the context of missions.
