Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Barrett Elementary sixth graders have an awesome opportunity to attend a 3-night, 4-day science extravaganza at Exploring New Horizon's Camp in Boulder Creek, CA from May 31-June 3. The children will experience outdoor educational activities that directly relate to the sixth grade science standards. They will go on daily hikes that include learning about the water cycle, edible plants, ecology and how to interact with the environment. The students will take a trip into Big Basin and go to the beach to learn about tide pool life. Around evening campfires they will sing songs about science. Each meal is graphed to include what is consumed, what is given to animals (leftovers) and what they recycle. A grand performance is given by the students in skit form at the end of the week on something that they learned. Barrett is hoping that all 60 sixth grade students will be able to participate in this wonderful experience. However, the per pupil cost will prohibit many from going unless we can raise the funds. We have raised funds through a Santa's Breakfast and a pizza and pajama night to help defray costs, however we are also seeking donations for 10 of our students who do not have the financial means to pay for the trip. It is my greatest hope that 10 of my students can attain a full scholarship to attend. Your support to allow our sixth graders this opportunity would be greatly appreciated as they are not apt to get this experience on their own.
