My Students

I teach upper level science courses. The students in my classes are bright and college bound. Because of that, it is assumed that every student I teach is able to easily afford the items they need in order to be successful in my class. That couldn't be further from the truth. I recently had a student who needed to work two jobs in order to help pay the rent.

The students at my school who are in need keep it to themselves.

They don't want the rest of their class mates to know that they can't afford all of their school supplies. They are proud and want to fit in with their peers.

My Project

This project will provide my classroom with 10 Casio scientific calculators. These will be available for students to borrow and use during my class.

In chemistry and physics, a scientific calculator is a necessity, just like pen and paper.

Unfortunately, not every student in my classes is able to afford one. These borrow calculators will allow those students to be able to complete their classwork. I will also allow a student to check out a calculator and take it home if they need to do so to complete an assignment.

Since most of my students already have a Casio scientific calculator and/or can afford one, a set of 10 should be enough for my classroom.
