Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is known as "The Little School with a Heart" because teachers and parents work together striving to meet the needs of our diverse learners. We are a Title I-funded school with 53% of our students being English language learners and 22% of our learners having disabilities. I work with at-risk students who require additional support to improve their literacy skills. They work hard every day and are eager to learn.
Many of my students are English language learners and students with learning differences.
My students benefit from multi-sensory strategies and visuals to address gaps in their literacy skills. It is beneficial to utilize as many interactive hands-on tools to teach and reinforce the necessary literacy skills to help my students reach their individualized goals.
My Project
I work with at-risk first and second graders during the day and after school. My students benefit from structured, sequential, multi-sensory and visual literacy instruction. I implement an Orton-Gillingham based literacy program to help address the literacy gaps for my English Language Learners and students with learning differences.
My students enjoy learning during our hands-on and engaging literacy lessons because I utilize many learning tools.
These Literasee teaching resources will enhance our lessons by providing engaging visual resources. The Literasee illustrated concept cards will provide memorable visuals of skills learned during our lessons.
