We are a Title I School in the Panhandle of Florida. The student population that is served is primarily Military and students who come from low socioeconomic families. Fifty-five percent of these students are eligible for free and reduced lunch. Many of our students are being raised by grandparents or single parent families, while some are living in homelessness.
Being a K-8 school has its challenges because, more often than not, both elementary and middle school students must share the same facilities (gymnasium, library, cafeteria and technology lab) technology and resources.
With nearly 800 students in the building, sharing resources typically means we cannot access what we need when we need it.
We work tirelessly to provide a safe, loving environment for all of our students. Despite the obstacles they face, they are positive, encouraged and resilient.
My Project
For this project, I am asking for donations in order to purchase cubbies for our science centers, library and equipment.
Presently, due to the lack of storage In my classroom, science resources must be stored out of the classroom in a room down the hall.
Having equipment readily available at all times would allow more flexibility in teaching during the school day.
These products will make science manipulatives and literature easier to access in my science classroom. The 3 shelf bookcase and storage boxes will be used to store center activities, task card boxes, skill and vocabulary reinforcement games as well as house our science library. The desk caddies will allow students to have instant access to materials needed to work in their science interactive journals. At present, many of the supplies, tools and books used in my classroom are only available while I am teaching that particular unit. When we have moved onto another topic, those supplies must be repacked and carried down the hallway to another room until the next time they are needed.
With these additional storage solutions, my students will be able to have instant access to their science literature all year long.
