Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Being a classroom teacher, you expect to lead and teach in the classroom, school, and community. Therefore, when COVID-19 hit, schools worldwide were impacted and forced to take drastic action to better protect our most vulnerable population. Our school was no different. The tenacity with which our administrators, teachers, students, and parents all took on this ever-changing dilemma has astonished me and given me hope that we'll persevere through this pandemic.
Whether it's through Zoom meetings, google hangouts, or doing off-site classwork to practice skills, my students have made me immensely proud as they all seek to learn a little more each day despite the circumstances.
They are consistently present in meetings, however they can be. They are consistently completing work that I've assigned and taking feedback in stride when they get something wrong. They are working hard to understand new material that they are not receiving in a normal classroom setting. And, best yet, they are keeping a positive attitude and are excited to participate and engage with me and their classmates!
My Project
As students are no longer able to attend school, they are missing out on valuable time in the classroom that would have given them hands-on experience in various subjects. Science is one of the most hands-on subject my students have and unfortunately we were not able to continue nor finish the science lessons and experiments we had planned.
Help me give my students some hands-on science materials in order to continue learning and developing a love for science.
This marble run would not only create some non-tech fun for my students but also challenge them in finding creative ways to create their runs. Plus, I could implement some of the Spanish language by having my students record themselves explaining what they did to create their marble run. The science activity books would get them some extra activities to have DIY science fun at home!
