My students need 35 subscriptions to SuperScience and Science Spin magazines to experience science beyond the textbook to see how science impacts them personally.

Do you remember reading out-dated science textbooks that never seemed to hold your attention? Our science materials consist of great hands on materials but no meaningful reading sources to go with them. I want my students to experience science through real life and current events, not a textbook.
I teach in an urban middle school in North Carolina.
My students are eager to learn but they are often swayed by the outside pressures of life. Scholastic's Super Science meets my students where they are at and shows them how science is relevant to their everyday lives. Super Science is an exciting way to help teach students the science concepts they need to know.
Scholastic's Super Science Magazine provides high interest, engaging stories in physical, life and earth science. The magazine also includes full access to Scholastic online! Scholastic online consists of science videos, learning games and reading skills that correspond with that month's magazine. When my students finish a magazine they cannot wait until the next one comes! I allow my students to work cooperatively with the magazines. By allowing them to work cooperatively students bring about several different ways to brainstorm solutions and/or expand on the science concept being introduced. Working cooperatively also increases their ability to work with all types of people. Small groups allow my students to add their perspectives to an issue based on their cultural differences. This exchange inevitably helps students to better understand others.
I would love to have these magazines for my students.
Nothing is more satisfying as a teacher than seeing my students totally engaged, challenging themselves to think beyond their personal experiences. The focus, excitement and motivation these magazines bring to the classroom are beyond words!
