This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school has adopted new science standards from the state. We currently have no textbooks that go along with our standards. We have five 2nd grade classrooms, 3rd grade classrooms, and three 4th grade classrooms in need of some books and materials to go along with our upcoming science unit. All the classrooms would be able share the resources throughout the year! All of our students would love the opportunity to have some hands on materials and books to learn about science!
My Project
Our students will be able to use literature to learn about the world around them. Picture books are a great way to introduce units and get students excited about learning. Students will be able to take what they have learned and apply science to scenarios in which they can engineer and explore possible solutions to real life issues.
Students need hands-on books and materials in order to learn and explore!
For example, students will be learning about Earth's Systems and will create a structure that could survive through a hurricane! This will help students make the connection of cross cutting science topics and apply it to real life.
The books we need will help engage students in various units of study like the book Diary of a Worm. This book will help students learn about rocks and soil from the perspective of an unlikely narrator!
